What I Bought for Fall: Part Deux
The rest of the things I bought for fall and how I plan to wear them.
Most of the items I bought for autumn in my Fall Wardrobe post were purchased in August because I like to get a jump start on the season. Since then, I’ve bought a few more special pieces that I can’t wait to wear as soon as they are back from the tailor.
I’m always on the look out for dresses and this green Herringbone Shirtdress ticks all the boxes for me. It says it’s a maxi length so I’m happy that it will arrive tomorrow since I have an appointment scheduled with my tailor on Friday. I’m always surprised at how many people wear things that are too long, especially jacket sleeves, when you can easily get them hemmed. Even local drycleaners will often do alterations and properly tailored clothes definitely make a difference.
The dress will perfectly coordinate with my new Loro Piana Rebecca Cap Toe Ballet Flats in olive green. They’ll also work well with jeans and grey trousers for fall.
Last year, I bought myself a black vintage Hermès Box Leather Retourne Kelly Bag 32 from 1999 for my birthday. It’s very fitting that it’s from the same year that A Perfect Murder was released since the film is why I wanted a Kelly bag, except hers was the Sellier style. It’s been requested that I put together an updated post on her fashions from the film so I’ll see what I can do this fall.
It’s been so grey and chilly lately, that I’ll probably have to wear my Toteme Trench Coat.
If you want the look of Bottega Veneta Earrings without the high price, these Gold Earrings as a fun alternative. I’d also wear my gold-plated bracelet too.
I ordered the Westman Atelier Petite Fête Edition Gift Set as soon as I received the email since her holiday gift sets always sell out. It comes with a mascara (not shown), and limited edition baby cheeks and highlighter. Buy one for yourself and every woman on your holiday gift list.
If you’re looking for a chic restaurant for lunch uptown, I love Fleming and their interior design by David Lucido.
One of my favorite events every fall is the New York Film Festival organized by Film at Lincoln Center. I’ve seen some amazing films over the years but for the last two years, I’ve splurged on a film package so I could order tickets before the general public. Last year, the actor’s strike meant that not many actors could attend unless they were starring in an independent film. Luckily, the writer’s strike had ended which meant that most of the filmmakers were there to introduce their films and participate in Q&A sessions after the screenings. This year, everyone will be able to introduce their films and participate in Q&A sessions which is exciting. I look forward to seeing The Brutalist, Anora, Maria, The Friend, The Room Next Door, Oh, Canada, and A Real Pain. I ordered my tickets the day after my surgery in the hospital so I forgot to get a ticket to Blitz so I hope more tickets become available.
If you follow me on Instagram, I told you that leopard would be big for fall. Even though I also bought the Zara Leopard Coat that I posted, I knew I wanted this Wiggy Kit Velvet Leopard Mercer Coat the minute I saw it online. It’s modeled after a vintage leopard coat so it’s the kind of piece you’ll have forever if you treat it well. I took one size down but it is too long so it’s one of the other items going to the tailor on Friday.
I love this black Fancy Cashmere Sweater since it’s thinner for when you will be inside and don’t need a heavy sweater. I wear this style often while traveling too.
I ordered the black Elasticized Midi Skirt since it reminded me of the navy utility maxi skirt I bought earlier. It’s a cotton fabric instead of shiny silky fabric like the navy version but the fit is very similar. I sized down a few sizes so check the dimensions before ordering.
I own the Claudette Flats from The Row in every color and love them so much because they are incredibly comfortable. They also look great with skirts and dresses in addition to trousers. Since they are mostly sold out, I recommend these black flats or these pointed toe black flats.
I bought the red Celine Teen Triomphe Bag in Paris last year and I love the pop of color it adds to neutral outfits.
For jewelry, I’d pair the Chunky Mariner Necklace with the Chunky Gold Hoops.
In the colder months, I love the Victoria Beckham Bitten Lip Tint in Cherie topped with Westman Atelier Squeaky Clean Liquid Lip Balm in Garçonne.
After I ordered the Wiggy Kit Velvet Leopard Mercer Coat , I couldn’t get the shorter Mercer Jacket in Clipped Jacquard and matching Gaucho Skirt in Clipped Jacquard out of my head. I loved the fabric and thought it was such a special set to wear to parties or even to the Salon Art + Design Fair in early November. I would even wear it to a matinée at the ballet or opera. I sized down one size in both pieces.
In warmer weather, I’ll wear the navy Fancy Cashmere Tank and in colder weather, I’ll wear the men’s navy Fancy Cashmere Long Sleeve Crewneck underneath. I size down one size from my women’s size.
I’ll pair the outfit with my suede Chanel Kitten Heels that aren’t available online but these black Suede Kitten Heel Slingbacks are very similar. You could also pick up the leopard of the collar and pair the outfit with these Suede Leopard Slingbacks.
I’ll carry my vintage Hermès Gulliver Kelly Bag 35 in vert foncé from 2000. Another great green bag is this green Bucket Bag.
For jewelry, I like this Gold Plated Necklace and Gold Vermeil Knot Earrings. A less expensive option are these Gold Plated Knot Earrings.
I’d wear the Victoria Beckham Bitten Lip Tint in Cherie topped with the Westman Atelier Squeaky Clean Liquid Lip Balm in Garçonne with this outfit too.
The best travel pants I have ever recommended were discontinued which is annoying since they were a best seller and everyone loved them. I’m trying to come up with other trip outfit options for you.
I rarely shop in stores in NYC but I bought this grey Relaxed Cashmere Crewneck Sweater in store in August. It’s very oversized so I went down a few sizes so size down based on how fitted or oversized you want it to look.
I like travel pants that aren’t sweats or lounge pants so you can also wear them during your trip. These grey Wool Trousers arrived today and I love that they have a zipper and button for ease putting them on and taking them off but the drawstring and elastic back make them very comfortable. They are unlined and fit true to size.
If you want a more casual matching set, I recommend these Merino Wool Pants and matching Merino Wool Hoodie.
I’ve worn The Row Owen Sneakers on many trips because they are insanely comfortable. For a less expensive option, you can try these Retro Sneakers.
I really don’t need another Rue de Verneuil bag since I own so many but I love the color combination of this Rue de Verneuil Medium Traversée Bag in grey linen with burgundy straps. They are the best travel bags.
Everyone always asks me what luggage I use and it’s the classic Hartmann Tweed Carryon Bag. Mine is an older style but it’s similar. It’s also a very if you know, you know old-school brand. I was once one of three people with this tweed style at the Nantucket airport so that tells you a lot about the demographic.
I love using pouches when I travel so I’d definitely pack my new Hermès Faubourg Corner Pouch in which I’d tuck vanilla Laneige Lip Glowy Balm and the Slip Lovely Lashes Contour Sleep Mask that really does help me sleep.
I also love the Attersee The Brea Bag in Jacquard for travel since you can use it as a pouch while traveling and as an evening bag when you snap the sides.
I love the way Pearl Earrings give your face a little brightness when you’re tired and I never travel anywhere without a Heidi Wynne Cashmere Scarf.
If you’re headed to Paris this fall or winter, I just updated my Paris Guide with all the new restaurants open now. The post to which I linked tells you everything that’s included but one buyer today wrote to me and said, “Your guide is wonderful. The very best I’ve seen”. It’s definitely the most detailed I’ve ever seen so I guaranteed you won’t be disappointed.

Also, now I’m cut off and not allowed to buy anything else for fall. Famous last words.
XOXO,
HC
immaculate as usual!
Great recommendations, as always! Would love to see a Hermes scarf with the Leopard coat (I like lots of pattern).
