Yes, one of my favourite 90s New York movies. The other being Greencard, which isn't nearly as popular (and probably not your style esthetic) but one I absolutely love and it would be great to see an outfits inspired by from that movie (and the interiors are gorgeous).

I haven't seen Greencard in years but I do remember loving her apartment. I need to rewatch it this weekend!

I'm with Gwyneth..this is the wardrobe I would steal - and honestly I think you could wear everything today and look fabulous. Such a wonderful post Heather...everything I love about your work - the level of detail and work to find all of these substitutions is staggering. Thank you!

Sharon Stone had it written into her contract that she would get to keep all her costumes in Basic Instinct which included pieces from Hermès. GP should have done the same thing!

Do you know if the Spinelli Kilcollin ring is comfortable on the hand?

I don't personally know but I know a lot of people who have them. I don't think they'd wear them if they were comfortable.

Loved this movie and will always stop to watch it if I’m channeling surfing. Her style and wardrobe are amazing! I know the term is overused these days, but it certainly is quiet luxury.

I've been obsessed with this movie since I was about 14, it was the first one ever to make 'grown-up' dressing seem appealing and Emily's wardrobe is one I'd covet even now though my tastes tend to run to a lot more print than hers!

Ellen Mirojnick's work is brilliant but I also think that the factor that lifts the wardrobe into such stratospheres of desirability, is Gwyneth herself - she has a presence and a way of moving and wearing clothes that animate the very beautiful things she wears from being just things, to believably being this woman's wardrobe. It's a skill in its own right, and not every tall blonde actress on the cover of Vogue has it (looking at the subjects of certain recent covers).

Also it's so interesting, what you said about the increased presence of 1999 Birkins at resale - Gwyneth did have a very strong 1998 on the wardrobe front, between this and Great Expectations, though her Estella wardrobe leaned a bit more youthful and sexier than Emily's it's still a classic and she seems perfectly at home in both.
