This is such a great post! I remember eagerly awaiting the August issue of Glamour magazine (in mid July of course!) to see what girls were packing to go to college - even when I was barely into high school! The hardest part was that I lived in Texas, so all of the sweaters had to wait until November at the earliest!
I remember when you recommended that cashmere COS crewneck last year, which I bought at the time and proceeded to get so much wear out of it. I was really impressed with the quality. It is great to know the sweater is back, I just ordered it again in this years grey color.
Heather, I always enjoy your posts ( been following your work for years) but this post was an absolute favorite. I feel like you saw into my soul. Thank You.
I started college in 1980 so these looks (and the movies) really resonate with me. Those Ballys are sold out already! 😞. I’m slowly raising my hand to admit I got the Miu Miu brown boat shoes this summer and they have been worth every penny.
Those Bally loafers! I'm in the depths of winter over here in Australia and feeling rather uninspired, but this has re-booted my love of dressing for chilly weather. Thank you!
I’ve been looking for a just right gray sweater. This may be it. I was in college during the late ‘70’s and early ‘80’s. The style was full on prep. You would see pink and green and or navy and Kelly green everywhere. Of course there were sea creatures of some sort adorning.. well everything. And don’t forget duck shoes. I still like preppy style but mine is a more reserved and slightly undone. While the heat index today will probably be over 100 it will be cool and crisp in my mine. Thank you for the beautiful collages you put together.
"Her sweaters alone deserve their own future post" I will be holding you to this, Heather!
I started college, in New England, around the same time as Maria, and went to a NYC private prep school, so your photos and movies are like madeleines for me, even as I’m hanging on to summer with both hands.
People StyleWatch was my FAVORITE magazine. I couldn’t wait until the fall issue in August. I’m already working on my shoe inventory for fall. Summer…I’m over her.
I would 100% love a Secret History book club 📚
Another vote from me for The Secret History book club. While wearing a grey cashmere sweater, of course…

Yes! I think my back to school bible was Seventeen. We wore our fall clothes back to school in September even though we were sweating in them.

Great post as always!
Thank you! I can't believe how the quality surpasses The Row but for so much less!

Awww, that is so sweet Anne!
I also remember back to school looks, so excited for Seventeen and Glamour magazines to show me
the way. Thanks for the recommendation regarding the COS sweaters, I have my eye on the grey one.
Fabulous post! So excited for fall ! (Trying to survive the 100 degree weather in the Sierra Nevada .)
Thank you Heather XO
Buying fall clothes while I'm sweating is the only thing that gets me through the end of summer!
Seriously, why don’t you start a chic book club for la rentrée?

So many GREAT recommendations! We will be so chic this fall! Do you prefer the COS or the Nadaam cashmere sweater?
Naadam are great for the price but thinner. Cos is heavier and amazing quality for the price.
Great post, I am so ready for fall!
And I am here for a post dedicated to Fair Isle sweaters! Check out Buffy Aldrich’s account, she has some amazing ones.
It's not Fair Isle season yet but you can check out my old posts, https://www.habituallychic.luxury/tag/fair-isle/
Came for the clothes, stayed for the books!
Such a great compliment! Thank you!

This was so nostalgic. Thank you.

Have you seen the boxy crop cashmere from everlane? I’m considering ordering that one...🤔
Thank you for the recommendation, while boxy tops look nice on other people they aren't the best on me.
I’m not personally a fan of cropped and boxy sweaters.
Wow, I loved it all. What a beautiful group of visuals.

I'm over her too!
